The area on which the new school complex will be built, owned by the Municipality of Gioiosa Ionica, it is the one currently occupied by the existing municipal nursery school, located in Località Limina. The existing structure consists of a reinforced concrete structure with a single floor above ground with foundations made of reverse beams, corresponding to the construction techniques, now outdated, of the time. Structural considerations regarding the age of the building, the non-compliance with current seismic regulations (NTC 2018), , systems and fire prevention, architectural barriers that have not yet been completely eliminated, the current energy class, led to the decision to undertake a substantial renovation of the building in question through demolition and reconstruction, adapting it to a nursery center. The preliminary study carried out by the Municipality of Gioiosa Ionica allowed us to briefly outline the conditions of the building subject to intervention, which was found not to be perfectly compliant from the point of view of the seismic response of the structure according to the new technical regulations issued (NTC 2018), such that it is deemed necessary to intervene with structural consolidation methods in order to achieve the safety levels required by the current legislation (NTC 2018). Furthermore, the structure currently needs to be adapted to the current regulations of the various sectors as quickly as possible (plant engineering, energetic, fire prevention, etc.). Therefore considering the fact that it is necessary to intervene on multiple aspects and on all the various technological units of the building (starting from the load-bearing structures) it was deemed inappropriate to renovate the existing building but to demolish and rebuild it, also considering the fact that it is made up of a single floor above ground (which would make the demolition project economical).

The Project therefore involves a demolition and reconstruction of the building with a new reinforced concrete structure. and elements in laminated wood and steel, on one floor f.t. fully compliant with the requirements of the new regulations in force in the various sectors. The key objective of the intervention is therefore aimed at the creation of a nursery center first of all adequate to the static-structural needs and therefore capable of guaranteeing an optimal response to the safety requirements complied with by law and also capable of providing appropriately sized and correctly articulated in order to satisfy teaching needs. The new Childhood Centre, structured organically through an adequate distribution of functional spaces, will present beyond the various classrooms intended for educational activities (Special Activities, Table activities and recreational activities for 1 Section of Childhood ed 1 Nursery section, a kitchen, a canteen, a Personnel Office, an Assistants Room, all provided by services sized according to current legislation. On the ground floor there will therefore be a canteen with the adjoining kitchen and the toilets will be adapted. Furthermore, pursuant to Legislative Decree no. 65 /2017 environments will be provided for supplementary services such as: Children and Family Center, Game Space.

The structure will allow you to activate 1 nursery school section (max 30 children) ed 1 Nursery section (max 30 children) compliant with current regulations.
